Mallorca Real Estate: Housing Project in El Molinar stopped

The Balearic government has temporarily halted a controversial housing project in Palmas marine district of El Molinar. After numerous objections from local residents in the popular "in" district the plans should be reviewed again.
The Balearic Ministry like to built on the farm Finca Son Bordoy - one of about 110,000 sqm large open area between El Molinar and the airport highway - approximately 800 apartments and a shopping center. Half of the units are designed as social housing measure.
The recent development plans had been made, however, a limit of around 200 dwellings. For this reason, the conservative opposition accused the town hall to try to run the project with property speculation.
The socialist government in turn relied on its election pledge to build in this legislative period around 5000 affordable housing for low income on the islands. A corresponding law of May 2008 is named after the construction minister Jaume Carbonero.
The increase in the density of development in Son Bordoy met with massive criticism from the neighbors, the GOB environmental organization, the Association of Ancient Keeper and Architect Chamber of Mallorca.
