Mallorca real estate: become Pollença a monument?

Strong protests from the property and construction business against the projects of the Island Council to give the municipality the status Bé d'Interés Cultural (BIC).

In Pollença, the resistance is growing against a decision of the Island Council. The old center of town is to be declared a cultural monument. The procedure to be initiated, a decision might be on Friday 23 April fall. In particular, representatives of the local construction sector to covet these plans.
In a joint operation of contractors, craftsmen and property owners now brought together more than 500 signatures. The signatories want as protest against the project of the Island Council.
If a location is a cultural monument (Bé d'Interés Cultural, BIC) explained in this way and placed under protection, has a direct impact on the granting of building permits. The opponents of Island Council plans fear could in the worst case, lead to a nearly two-year moratorium, make the construction activities would be impossible. Even Mayor Joan Cerdà (Unió Mallorquina) expressed skepticism. At least there is still a need for discussion.
There are already several villages on Mallorca, which have been declared a cultural monument, among other things, Alcúdia and Binissalem. Also Sineu, Soller and Campos could get this status, but they have made the request voluntarily.

The village of Pollença in Mallorca

Pollença in the backland of the tourist port, situated at the northern foothills of the Serra Tramuntana mountain route between Soller and the road to Palma. The historic town has, on its south-west to exit in the direction of Sóller with a double arch bridge over the Torrent de Sant Jordi even a relic from the Roman period. The narrow alleys of the old town, between the Pont Roma, avenue-like entrance from the direction of Port de Pollença (Via Pollentia), and contribute to the Plaza closed siesta similar and aloof as in the towns of the interior. But at the time business-to-open shutters and doors can be found in Pollença much more life and in many houses visible signs of wealth. Pollença has a modern infrastructure and other places of comparable size. Noticeable is the large number of restaurants and bars in the streets off the Plaza.
The best of the north eastern bypass (Palma) addressable Plaça de Pollença is one of the most sympathetic of the island, second only to the idyllic Plaza in Soller. The shaded, traffic-free space is slightly increased at the church. A wonderful place to let the local life all around on itself.

Sunday will be held on the Plaza is a colorful vegetable market to be sufficient to around in good weather, the numerous existing tables and chairs, the open-air bars for the audience barely. If you feel hungry: Especially the Tapatheke the bar L'Auborada for the snack well sorted.

A few steps below the Plaza is the Claustre del Convent of Santo Domingo, in front of a mini park with an old water wheel. The former Dominican monastery is a traditional venue for summer concerts.

From the Plaça up there are only about 300 m walk to the Calvary of the tourist "must" is one of Pollença. The number of days of the year correspond to the 365 cypress levels. They lead to the chapel on the hill dominating Pollença. From 170 m in height has a wonderful Blickauf the houses of the city, the extensive orchards in the sea level and extends the bay.

At the bottom of the steps right the Museu Martí Vicenç is a remarkable collection of pottery and weaving Majorcan, as well as works by the artist Martí Vicenç.

Almost mandatory in tourist promotion and Pollensa are (very) ride to the Santa Maria Klosterberg the Ermita de Nostra Senyora de Puig. A sign (Puig de Santa Maria) on the road to Palma has up the path bends to the Ermita. Depending on the condition you need from there, walk about 30-60 minutes. The paved, steep driveway ends at about 2 / 3 height, parking can only below some Wegverbreiterungen.
The last part is very good for a short hike min (15), but the whole way on foot may be too monotonous and recommended rather than small mountain bikers test. Top visitors can expect a castle-like fortified. In the kiosk, there is coffee and snacks, a restaurant business is not regulated but maintained. Beds are available.

Would be ideal picnic paraphernalia in a backpack, because in the northwestern corner of the attachment is a carved stone (though shadow-free) table where the view is far above the bays of Pollença and Alcúdia. It provides formally for a cozy meal in the open. A picnic area that requires no promotion, is located 500 m north of the bypass on the direct road-Alcúdia Pollença below the hill Puig de Santuiri.
A supermarket self is not far, a large food market is located just north of the roundabout on the road to Port de Pollença.

Around this circle are large antique markets. In the exhibition rooms are found primarily Mallorquinensas, equipment and furniture from old farmsteads. They are, although all things that are more hearty for the equipment of villas that have been modernized for vacation homes, as are suitable for luggage, but the supply is always interesting. East of Palma Pollença towards one passes the terms of the views of Mallorca's most beautiful golf course. Guests can also visit the bar without golf ambitions or the very nice restaurant. Both offer a panoramic view over the square and the bays of the northeast coast. For the bar terrace is a great pool. Although the price level is generally not low, but the lunch menu is not particularly expensive.

Visiting Pollença on Saturdays may be may combine with a hike to the ruins of the Castell del Rei. As Castle and the surrounding land in the ownership of the March family is famous, access was always limited. The gates were open on Saturdays during the winter season 9:00-15:00 clock for the infantry. The last few years, however, remained blocked the road completely. A dispute over allegedly runs. The current situation is known in the tourist office in Port de Pollença, on the Carretera Formentor 31, Phone +34 971 865,467th

Who does after any reopening of the route shall follow the road of Port de Pollença-Lluc-Sóller near the Roman bridge Ternelles the sign to the right. A narrow road winding through the gardens and villas, past the Torrente de Ternelles, a rocky river bed, which usually flows only a trickle. The last 300 m run along the slope. The road ends after a total of 2 km at the guarded gate in front of the hidden underlying Finca March. It is advisable to park before reaching the slope, above, is hardly the place.

Port de Pollença
That by the British early as destination for (then!) Discerning Port de Pollença discovered in the wide bay of the same is an ideal basis for active Mallorca holidays, at the same time for the holidays with children one worth considering an alternative to, particularly in many brochures in this respect exposed bay of Alcudia and the east coast. Although the place with increasing tourist flows be former gentleman's flair has partially lost, but still has a very pleasant atmosphere. This is in addition to recent beautification measures in the central beach and shoreline area, too, that the Port de Pollença once only slowly developed from a fishing village and summer resort for locals to holiday destination for tourists. Ugly concrete palaces are missing in the town altogether. Only two small hotels on the waterfront have more than four storeys. The only major hotel Klotz (Pollença Park) is relatively unobtrusive off the coast far from the town center.

Note the three distinctive from each local area to:
• A wide sandy beach stretches from the southern entrance to the center, but ends at the extensive facilities of the marina and fishing port. Just behind the beach and promenade the busy main road runs along the bay to Alcúdia. Some older hotels and hostels, apartment houses, pubs, restaurants and shops are located apart from a bar and cafeteria at the beach across the street. To get to the beach, guests have the holiday of this area before crossing the street.
• The old village and the tree-lined main plaza, grouped behind the port and the only pedestrians Passeig Anglada Camarasa reserved. In this area, most houses in the town are better with their own concrete pier and small Sandeinsprengseln. The tables in the restaurants are close to this most important 200 meters of the location close.
• The trick Port de Pollença, however, the Paseo Vora Mar, with the extension Carrer Colón. A foot and cycle path among old trees leads almost 2 km of small shady parts of the beach, past lovely old houses and newer apartment buildings. At the very end is the most beautifully located hotel of the place, Illa d'Or.
In Port de Pollença can leave different concepts combined well: there are enough (shallow and small-Children welcome, for swimmers rather boring) sand beach with good water quality and the full range of water supply (including surfing and sailing school). In addition, the city is conveniently located to explore the most interesting destinations in Majorca.

In cycling distance to the entire Bay of Pollensa are with the great peninsula of La Victoria, Alcudia and the bay of the same, Can Picafort, the town of Pollença, Cala Sant Vicenç on the northwest coast and still-accessible on small roads through the hinterland of the Caves Campanet.

By bus or renting a lot of attractive destinations including Palma are convenient reach. And thus the starting point for a series of hikes.

Less appealing is the place presented as such-with the exception of traffic at the plaza behind the "first line" water. The restaurant and bar scene is dense and varied reception, but there is a lack of terraces and outdoor restaurants of the better categories.

Clock between 10 and 15 day clock is Port de Pollença from May to October, driven by a number of tour buses. Because from there it goes by boat to the peninsula of Formentor (with the same Nobel hotel) into a long beautiful beach on the pine forest. Traffic chaos in port and a lot of people are on the promenade during the day not uncommon.

Port de Pollença is one of the especially recommended for active sites. The prerequisite is that the right accommodation was (best booked in the first row). Since the capacity of the good neighborhoods there is not large, must be reserved early. The Germans play the way in Port de Pollença (yet) the dominant role. British and Spanish are the majority.
