In the middle of the 'Comarca de Migjorn' is the town and municipality of Campos, from where you can fully enjoy the beautiful nature of the southeast of Majorca and visit some of the best beaches on the island. Campos is a traditional town that has retained the charm of Mallorca with its winding streets and stone houses. The earliest record of the city dates back to 1300 AD as Campos by King Jaume III. was founded around former Roman and Saracen settlements. The city has several noteworthy attractions within the city such as the church of Sant Julia, where a famous Jesus painting by the Sevillian artist Bartolome Estaban Murillo hangs. There are regular exhibitions in the Museum Mary Rafela and the Church of St. Julian. With the reconstruction of many windmills in the area, which are used for irrigation, the dairy industry was revived in Campos. Visitors should be aware that public transport to Campos is a bit slow and they may need to rent a car. The people of Campos are in the city all year round and that's probably why you'll find everything you need in everyday life. The next larger cities for shopping are Llucmajor, Palma and Manacor, which are only accessible by car. Make an appointment for a picnic with local products such as sobrasada and piriska cheese, for which the city is famous. Thursday and Saturday is in Campo's market day. Most attractions around Campos are in contact with nature. From the city you can easily reach national nature parks, forests and mountains. Campos has a great big beach called Es Trenc not far from Campos. Apart from a few Spanish bars known as 'chiringuitos', the wide sandy beach with its crystal clear waters is largely untouched. Es Trenc is often compared to the beaches of the Caribbean. If you do not mind a little walk, you will most likely find your own spot on this long beach.
